Geppetto Concrete Temple Theatre

About the show

Gepetto, aka “G”, and his puppet companions Omino and Donina are the main characters. The inspiration for Geppetto was co-producer Carlo’s, explaining: “I am not physically disabled and have been a dancer for most of my life. The very idea of losing a limb was horrific to me, which is why I was totally awe struck when I heard Hugh Herr, a double amputee, say that he feels fortunate that he is very different from those of us with feet of flesh. His feet (he has 20 interchangeable pairs) can already do some individual tasks (mountain climb, swim) more efficiently than our flesh feet can. He knows that he can look forward to having feet that will only get better and more versatile, while my flesh feet will age, get less agile and less able. This to me is both mysterious and wonderful. Since the removal and replacement of limbs would be intrinsic to creating a piece whose subject matter is prosthetics, puppets are an obvious choice. Moreover, I was struck by Hugh Herr's adaptability, how his loss made him a better person."
