DESCRIPTION:A Work in Progress\nWritten by Soomi Kim\nDirected by Peter Kim \nAug. 28-30 2025  @7pm\nMain stage at HERE Arts Center \nMemoirs (Act 2) is the second act of GUT (굿) \, a three-act autobiographical dance theatre work and the fifth and final installment of Soomi Kim’s series exploring mortality in Korean and Asian American lives. Centered around her late father’s memoirs\, this bilingual act blends movement\, text\, and projections to examine the complex legacy between a Korean American daughter and her immigrant father\, as she pieces together the history of a man she never truly knew. Set between 1950s postwar Korea and present-day America\, Memoirs traces a poetic journey through grief\, fragmented memory\, and complicated love—asking: how can we let go when grief is a knot of longing and regret?\n \nGUT (굿) Act 2: Memoirs (a work in progress) brings together a stellar company of 4 AAPI performers led by director and co-developer Peter Kim. The piece was first developed at Berkeley Rep’s Ground Floor residency in 2023 and continued its journey at BAM’s 2024 Artist Residency and the Mercury Store in 2025.
