Instructions for A Meal, as part of HERE RAW 2021
Storytelling Recipe Circle & Bookbinding Workshop with LEIMAY Ensemble Members Brandon Perdomo and Irena Romendik
July 9, 2021, 6pm-8pm
In this 2 hour hybrid gathering and workshop (outdoor and remote) at HERE and on Zoom, you will learn the basics of Japanese bookbinding while sharing recipes and memories through food. Each attendee will share a recipe and a story and take home a handmade creation: a book of recipes collected from workshop participants.
By participating in this workshop, you acknowledge that your recipe and story may be made publicly available and may be included in the development materials of A MEAL project by LEIMAY.
We invite you to think about the recipe of a dish that awakens a specific memory in your life. It could be that the memory is of a dear person with whom you shared this food and a story associated with them, or it might be that the memory is connected to a particular event in your life. To help you narrow down the possibilities, we are grouping food in the following ways:
- – Food for celebration
- – Food for recovery
- – Food to-go (snacks)
- – Food for Homesickness
1. Reserve your sliding scale ticket and come to HERE
2. Choose one of the above themes, then submit this form with your recipe so we can print it in advance to be included in a recipe book. (You may type it or handwrite it and attach an image of it).
3. Prepare a story to share with other audience members (up to 3 minutes).
4. Join us in person to share your story, learn about Japanese book binding, and create a recipe book from the submissions to take home. (Materials will be provided.)
1. Reserve your free zoom ticket and decide if you want to observe only or if you would like to participate by sharing a recipe and story with others to include in the collective recipe book.
If you choose to observe: Log in at the time of the event and please keep your mic muted.
If you choose to participate: Choose one of the above themes (under More Details), submit this form with your recipe so we can print it in advance to be included in the recipe book. (You may type it or handwrite it and attach an image of it). *Please also include your email in this form so we can email you PDF’s of all recipes as well as a list of materials to prepare so you can print at home and follow along with the bookbinding workshop.
1. Prepare your materials for the workshop (gather your materials and print all recipes)
2. Prepare a story to share with other audience members, time permitting (Up to 3 minutes).
3. Join us via Zoom to learn about Japanese bookbinding, and create a recipe book from the workshop submissions. If time permits and if you are willing, you may choose to publicly share your story with other participants.
