A Marriage: 1 (Suburbia)

April 23 – May 4, 2013

Step into a double self-portrait steeped with the iconography of the American Dream in Nick Vaughan and Jake Margolin’s panorama of visual and performative art, A Marriage: 1 (Suburbia). The husbands commandeer HERE’s physical space with a blend of performance art, video, sculpture, drawing, and sound, to create immersive installations, with visual art on display during gallery hours, and performance actions occurring nightly. Navigating through the gallery space, both theatres, dressing rooms, restrooms and lobby, it’s your experience to curate; each moment you choose to explore works in tandem with the next to reveal the artists’ experiences of their same-sex marriage and express their deep ambivalence towards their new standing as a Normal American Couple.
