Cultivating Collective Safety – A Know Your Rights Town Hall
QTBIPOC artists and cultural workers know that when governmental systems fail us, it’s our responsibility to create our own spaces of care and sanctuary. Join us at HERE for Inaugurate Care, a series of gatherings over the course of two weeks following the presidential inauguration. Inaugurate Care will offer resources to our home communities and leverage art-making and collective action to redirect resources towards vulnerable groups around the country. These gatherings will bring together civic and artistic practice, and unite a group of partner organizations from across NYC and beyond.
In this town hall, Immigration lawyer and LGBTQIA+ law expert Alfredo Murga will join our community to lead a discussion about immigrant rights, for those in-status and undocumented, what it means to live in a “sanctuary city,” same sex marriage and LGBT rights, as well as policy changes the public can expect as we look ahead to the next four years led by an administration with anti-immigration objectives. Mr. Murga will open the town hall with a short presentation, followed by time for the audience to ask general questions about immigration and LGBTIA+ matters. Resources and recommendations will be available for community members to seek individual assistance as well. Drinks and discussion in the lobby to follow.
