Join us for Gen-Directed, the final performance of this semester’s Staging Pride: Queer Youth Theater program.

In a world where the government assigns gender, we rise up and fight back. Gen-Directed crafts a dystopic world where those in power would rather isolation prevail. And yet, hope is found and community is cultivated in underground, nightlife spaces! Told through original scenes, songs, and lip sync performances, watch as the oppressed and their oppressors collide.

This original piece was created by LGBTQ+ youth artists over the course of the 14-week Staging Pride: Queer Youth Theater program at Hetrick-Martin Institute. Staging Pride is National Queer Theater’s free, after-school theater program for LGBTQ+ young people in NYC. The program offers queer youth the chance to build community, learn about the history and culture of their identity, and work with industry professionals. The program is led by Teaching Artist Khadija Bangoura and supported by the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation, Find Your Light Foundation, and Feel Something Foundation.
