IncogNegro

MAY 30-JUN 1

INCOGNEGRO is a comedy tour de force where the “ethnically ambiguous” Maija Di Giorgio tackles the complexities of racial diversity through a woman’s point of view. Inspired by her frustrations for attempting to fit in, and confronting her fear of being doomed to be alone for the rest of her life, Maija explores whether the issues are really hers or is she living in a polarized world? Being brought up by her upper class, virtuoso African American mother, Sicilian immigrant father, Irish stepmother, and Korean aunt, and with each family member clinging to their cultural traditions, they all become exasperated with Maija for not being more like each of them. They commonly unite and strongly agree, that “Maija has an Identity Crisis.” Maija holds debates between the black, white and immigrant sides of her identity. She explores the taboo subjects of race, class, and the second sex and their role in her life choices, igniting the question, “Is it me or is it you?”
