Presented in conjunction with EPIC Players’ BUM BUM (or, this farce has Autism)

The story of a boy that was born a robot.

We meet Mother and Father, a young couple who are excited to have their first baby. During labor, catastrophe occurs when Mother dies giving birth to a jagged, metal robot. Immediately causing a major rift between Karkoid and Father, who can’t help but blame his son for the death of the love of his life.

Fast forward 14 years, Karkoid is going to a public school for the first time. Here we meet all the high school archetypes and witness the challenge in finding your social circle, especially for an automaton. Karkoid is gifted at math, as you’d expect a robot to be, but discovers in music class that there’s a song inside him that he is straining to get out.     Being a robot with a monotone robot-y voice (the audience just hears him as a sweet kid), whenever he tries to sing it comes out all wrong.

Determined to find his song, Karkoid uses the mathematical skills he knows to navigate a solution. Along the way, his logical and insightful mind impacts the lives of other struggling teenagers.

It is a story about understanding a child that is different from us, the growing pains of adolescent identity, and the importance of striving to find the song inside you.
