My Life in a Nutshell

Guided by eighty strings, life-sized marionettes enact a witty melodrama of lust, death, and the geometry of human relationships.

HANNE TIERNEY was born in East Germany and has been working and living in New York City since 1959. Her work has been seen at Franklin Furnace, Queens Museum, Whitney Museum, Guggenheim Museum, as well as overseas in Paris and Berlin. Between 1988 and 1995, Ms. Tierney began working on more extensive productions incorporating live music, vocalists, and visual artists, such as A Play Called Not and Now by Gertrude Stein and Chekhov’s The Seagull. Eventually, this led to performances at Bitef and the Toy Theater Festival at St. Ann’s Warehouse. Her work has earned her an OBIE and several Unima Citations for Excellence, and she has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Jim Henson Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts.
