On Behalf of Us
June 1-4
On Behalf of Us is a four night performance art run including a workshop by, for and with Black and Brown creatives. Curated by deaf&mumbles, a development studio by interdisciplinary artist Suswana Chowdhury. The production will showcase:
- Thursday, June 1, 8:30pm – Into The Deep, A Theatrical Poetry Performance
- Produced by Ode, Directed by Suswana Chowdhury, Featuring Jean-Sebatien Surena with Julian Pastor and Fanta Ballo
- Into The Deep is an amalgamation of spoken word, theater and music taking us straight into the mind of Jean and the world he lives in.
- Friday, June 2, 8:30pm – Willow, A Stage Reading
- Produced by The Notice Blog, Directed by Paul Notice, Featuring Ashley Noel Jones as Willow
- Willow is an Afrofuturist thriller series that follows an elected alt-world observer, known as a griot, as she ascends to power in a vampiric world on the verge of collapse. In this stage reading, the cast will be performing Episodes 1-4 with a brief talkback afterwards.
- Saturday, June 3, 8:30pm
- Rise Shahoshika, An Interdisciplinary Performance
- Produced by Srijonology, Directed by Semonti Wahed, Featuring an ensemble cast
- Rise Shahoshika is a bilingual interdisciplinary performance art piece exploring the essence of women empowerment through various mediums including written and spoken word, vocal music, movement and painting.
- Sunday, June 4, 4:00pm – Poetry Workshop, Into the Art of Performance
- Produced by Ode, Led by Jean-Sebastien Surena and Fanta Ballo
- Following Into The Deep, both Jean and Fanta will be leading a workshop on the elements that make up a spoken word performance and how to apply them. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to perform their pieces at the end.

HERE is now a mask-optional space. All patrons attending HERE performances and events will no longer be required to wear masks.
We ask all audience members to please stay home if they have a sore throat, are feeling sick in any other way, or have been recently exposed to COVID-19, and to please contact the box office for refunds or exchanges.
All of our performers, technicians, and staff members are required to be fully vaccinated and masked unless they are onstage performing. Additionally, they are participating in an active testing regimen to keep everyone as safe as possible.
HERE reserves the right to revise protocols as the rate of transmission changes and in light of new scientific data that may present itself.
