Alenka is struggling to communicate in a strange world much like ours, where language is diluted by algorithms, feelings, and animal impulses. Her cousin Frankie is coming to visit and won’t stop sending her reels. And her house is starting to voice its opinions out loud. In The Kick Inside, The Million Underscores_ _ invite us to join Alenka as she pulls at the thread of everyday communication in a lost city where humans, animals, and machines keep talking over each other. In a crisis of communication, can a new language be born?

Inspired by the Kate Bush album of the same name, The Kick Inside includes text by 12 distinct playwrights from across NYC. Brought to life on stage through the direction of Nicolás Noreña, a lush world designed by Normandy Sherwood, and a live foley soundtrack, The Kick Inside reflects our moment of multicode chaos; venturing to articulate how it feels to make meaning of each other right now.
