Pearl is a historical feminist play that reimagines the Mongol invasion of Iran through the untold perspective of women. Rather than focusing on the conquerors, the story highlights the resilience, courage, and resistance of women who defied violence and terror. It is a narrative of survival, strength, and solidarity that sheds light on overlooked voices in history.
Blending rigorous historical research with contemporary theatrical language, Pearl is both an academic and artistic project. It aims to bridge past and present, inviting audiences to reflect on the cyclical nature of violence and the enduring power of women’s resistance.
The production will be staged in New York, connecting an international audience to a story that, while rooted in Persian history, resonates universally with today’s struggles against war, displacement, and gender-based violence. By focusing on women’s bravery and agency, Pearl creates space for dialogue around feminism, identity, and resilience across cultures.
This project is designed not only as a theatrical performance but also as a catalyst for intercultural conversation, bringing Iranian history into a global artistic discourse.
