Witches, Queers and Clowns

March 14-30

Witches, Queers and Clowns is a three week performance series focused on societal outcasts. The works are radical, funny, historical and any combination of the three.

The series will feature the world premiere of Witches!? In Salem?!  by Matt Cox (Puffs Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At A Certain School Of Magic & Magic) running intermittently throughout the three week period.

The Lineup:

Thursday, March 14th at 8:30pm – Opening Night Concert hosted by multi-hyphenate glitter alien Amy Jo Jackson featuring uptown belters, downtown queerdos and everything in between.

Friday, March 15th at 8:30pm – THIRD SEX: 1930s transvestite lieder– Music & Adaptation by Adam J. Rineer – Translations by Erica Kastner & Thomas Gurinskas -Developed with and Directed by Jason Aguirre. A found text song-cycle/punk cabaret based on the short stories, articles, poems, and personal essays of Das 3. Geschlecht, a transvestite magazine published in five issues from 1930-1932 in Berlin, before n*zis burned its publishing house to the ground. The magazine was largely thought to be lost until it was rediscovered and reprinted in 2016. Third Sex brings these forgotten trans and queer narratives to life through an eclectic score inspired by the punk and experimental electronic scenes of the last 90 years while examining the queer experiences of the past, present, and future through our vivacious stories of survival.

Wednesday, March 20th at 8:30pm – Witch and the… created by Scout Davis. A public meditation. A lip-sync stuck on loop re-dramatizing a middle school production of Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe in Calabasas, California. Within this meditation, we see Scout begin to negotiate their past relations with the White Witch herself, Tiffany Trump and her greater lure towards supremacy and malevolence.

Thursday March 21st at 8:30pm – An evening of short song cycles, Unfinished Musical: the Musical, by Matt Bovee. Themes include Legendary Magical Genderqueer Ancient Hawaiians, being gay, and despair.

Sunday March 24th at 4:00pm Recent Cutbacks’ There is No Spoon, a queer parody of The Matrix featuring RCB’s iconic physical comedy and foley SFX alongside drag, leather and of course, Kung Fu. Directed by Kristin McCarthy Parker

Wednesday March 27th at 8:30pm -Songs from The Ferret Show– a concert of an all-new musical about the weird and wondrous world of competitive Ferret pageants. Score by Dan Mills & Ben Thornewill (Jukebox the Ghost), book by Matt Cox (Puffs) and Stephen Stout.

Saturday March 30th at 4:00pmNew Scores, an afternoon salon, where a variety of musical theater artists will present their songs and some of the stories behind them.

Sunday March 31st at 4:00pmLance Horne and friends will sing songs in the HERE lobby at It All Comes Down while the box office tallies the earnings, carpenters tear down the set and the whole thing comes crashing down, literally speaking.

The series is produced by Jonathan Cottle in association with BonfireWorks Foundation, a Hudson Valley based non-profit dedicated to supporting the commission, development and creation of public artworks and arts experiences to inspire and promote human connection.  More information at: bonfireworksfoundation.org.
