Closing Night
“I have decided tonight will be my last night. My terms. My closing night.“ New Year’s Eve on a rooftop in Buenos Aires: a woman stands on the ledge, about to jump. A stranger, who happens to be a director, interrupts. She convinces the woman, who happens to be an actor, to wait until midnight to jump. To pass the time, the director helps the actor to perform the iconic roles she always wanted to play. As she transforms into each leading lady, the actor remembers her life and career, her love of the theatre and her connection to each of the women that she portrays. She also remembers all the disappointing ways in which that life and career have never measured up to her dreams. As the gap between fantasy and reality widens, will these final performances remind her that life is worth living, or push her over the edge?
Closing Night is a darkly comedic musical exploration of the joy and pain that comes with being an actor, especially a female actor who finds herself facing 40 with no agent, no contracts and no idea what to do next.
